No, that’s not his real name, its his stage name. A derivative of Mississippi. Its shorter than Mississippi Blues Child, which isn’t his name either. When he’s playing the blues, he’s Mr. Sipp.  He’s a guitar player, singer, song writer, producer. Credits on this cd also include percussion, strings, horn arrangements, lead vocals, background vocals, executive producer and bass.

The songs have a rich full sound and Mr. Sipp has a sweet guitar tone. And he can wail. I could hear some Hendrix influ...

Jason Ricci and the Bad Kind                Approved by Snakes                  Eller Soul Records

This is not your mother’s blues album. You know the one, follows the formula, and eliminates any possibility of making you feel alive. This ain’t that one. This one belonged to the kid down the block that beat you up occasionally for personal amu...

This is an EP. Jim is a veteran musician and has toured and currently has an acoustic and electric band, and plays solo.  There is a list of well-known artists he has played with and for.

These songs are very well done. Jim’s guitar isn’t aggressive; this isn’t blues rock. These blues are laid back, Jim’s licks are tasty and well-placed. Mike Zito says this a fun album, and he ain’t lying. It's produced by Tom Hambridge, who also played drums and wrote or co-wrote the 10 originals here. There are also 2 covers, a Luther Allison and a Clarence Garlow. Zito is credited with 5 co-writes. The great Kevin McKendree handles all things keyed. The songs were recorded “live” in the studio, which is an advantageous way to record when it can be done. This is a rocking, guitar driven, turn it up loud kind of CD. Some of the songs start wit...

"Papa" Gros is another that has been performing many years, but doesn’t have a bunch of releases under his moniker. The last name is pronounced “Grow”. This CD is all New Orleans. I love New Orleans, it’s the funkiest country I’ve ever been to. I was 19 the first time, me and a couple of buddies, “Hey! Let’s go to New Orleans!”. Our youth was both a curse and a blessing and many situations could have so easily gone different directions. We had barely ever been out of the woods, but found oursel...
