Once again BB's Lawnside BBQ was the scene of folks padding around in their jammies and slippers, sipping bloody marys and eating breakfast, not a usual serving for BB's.  On March 10 KKFI's Junebug hosted a Live! edition of his Blues Kitchen blues program.

A fundraiser for  KKFI Community Radio, the station did a live remote broadcast from BBs at frequency 90.1FM and at kkfi.org.

The sold-out event was standing room only by the start time of 8am.  Several folks wore robes a...

By John Surratt, The Vicksburg Post

The music industry and the blues community lost one of its more talented members with the death of recording artist and Vicksburg native Terry Evans on Jan. 20.

Born in Vicksburg in 1937, Evans was known as a songwriter and blues artist who recorded songs with guitarist Ry Cooder, John Fogerty, John Lee Hooker and Boz Scaggs, and wrote songs for Pops Staples and Louis Jordan.

He wrote and performed the song “Down in Mississippi” for the movie “Crossroads.”

The IBC gets bigger and better each year!  Over 250 acts from around the world competed in the 2018 Challenge. Representing KCBS were the Taylor Smith Band and the duo act of Jason Vivone and Sam Platt.

Subfreezing temperatures and ice-snow mix made it difficult on folks traveling to Memphis.  The International Showcase Tuesday evening, which I had been so looking forward to, was held at the Clayborn Temple which, I was told, was very cold and hard to tolerate for the entire eve...

Let’s say you are looking through your music collection, trying to find just the right thing to enhance your evening environment. You wanna hear something fresh and you’re staring at stuff you’ve been listening to since back when all your old rock-n-roll tee shirts still fit. I’m not judging, mine sure don’t fit, and I’ve got a conspiracy theory as to why.  See, the stuff they’ve been feeding us has ingredients, …shhh….they’re everywhere, I can’t talk right now. Ix nay on the azy cray. How abou...

Kansas City has a long and unique tradition of a blues breakfast dance on Thanksgiving morning. This years, as in many past years, Kansas Citians will have to make a choice between two dances.  Both are dress-up events, traditionally.

The Southeast Bar and Restaurant Association (SEBRA) hosts a Thanksgiving Morning Blues and Breakfast Dance at Club KC Mingles (formerly Southtown Pavilion) located at 8625 Troost. Headlining is soul singer Latimore, famous for his hit Let's Straight...

The South Side Souls will host a celebration of life honoring the band’s original drummer Michael Schulze who passed away earlier this year.  The celebration will be held Saturday, October 14 at the new Roxy Bar in Shawnee.  Additional performances include Michael's former bands, Visual Images and the much anticipated reunion of Big Richard. All proceeds will go to Operation Breakthough which benefits children in the Kansas City area.
