A memorial benefit will be held 5pm on Sunday, February 17th at Knuckleheads Saloon in The Garage to Celebrate the Life of Michael David Ledbetter. Ledbetter, an explosive opera-turned-blues vocalist and guitarist, died Jan 21 of a head injury resulting from an epileptic seizure.

Otis Rush, a powerful blues singer and innovative guitarist who had a profound influence not just on his fellow bluesmen but also on rock guitarists like Eric Clapton and Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, died on Saturday, Sept 29. He was 83.

His wife, Masaki Rush, announced the death on Mr. Rush’s website, saying that the cause was complications of a stroke he had in 2003. She did not say where he died.

All musicians are invited to submit their recordings for Blues Music Award consideration.

Any blues recording released between November 1, 2017 and October 31, 2018 is eligible for 2019 Blues Music Award consideration.

Blues Masters at the Crossroads held in Salina, Ks, is set for Oct. 26-27. The lineup has not yet been released but it's not too early to plan your road trip. Blues News will publish that lineup when we get word.

Matt “Guitar” Murphy, blues sideman who played with the Blues Brothers and legends like Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf, died Friday, June 15, 2018. He was 88. For a history of his career, click here.
